Self-Employment for Agencies

Self-employment is an important option that individuals on the autism spectrum or with an intellectual disability may want to explore. Self-employment can mean a job tailored to an individual’s strengths and interests, and may provide the flexibility and control over work that individuals need to meet their employment goals. However, starting a business requires certain fundamentals such as a business idea, a solid business plan, financing, and access to support services for entrepreneurs.

The resources on this page are designed to help you understand what self-employment is and is not. They will also help you learn how to better support individuals who want to explore this option for connecting to the labour-market.

The Inclusive Workplace is an initiative of Ready, Willing and Able, a partnership of the Autism Alliance of Canada and Inclusion Canada. This work is made possible by the generous support of the Government of Canada’s Opportunities Fund.
