Career Advancement for Employees

Career advancement means moving forward in your job by taking on more responsibilities, gaining new skills, and moving into different positions that meet your goals. This could mean getting a promotion in your company, or finding a new job, that helps you reach your goals and feel more satisfied with your work.

Career advancement, like finding a job, starts with setting goals for what you want to achieve. Maybe you want to learn new things, become a leader, or work in a different field. To reach your goals, you might need to learn new things or get more education. You may also want to speak with people who know more than you or can teach you or give you advice.

The resources on this page are meant to help you better understand what career advancement is. They will help you learn about how to set-goals, share those goals with your employer and any supports around you, and how to connect with supports.
