Career Advancement for Agencies

While supports for employment have typically focused on getting and keeping a job, there is a growing attention to an individual’s right to and need for career advancement. Career advancement means employees moving forward in their job by taking on more responsibilities, gaining new skills, and moving into different positions that meet their goals. This could mean getting a promotion with an existing employer, or finding a new job, that helps a person reach their goals and feel more satisfied with their work and life.

The resources on this page are meant to help support professionals to better understand what career advancement is, how to help people set goals, how to coach individuals or work with them to share those goals with a current employer, or how to work through changing employers.
